BC Emergency Alert test happening next week

If all goes to plan, your smartphone, TV, and radio will play an emergency alert tone next Wednesday as B.C. takes part in a Canada-wide test of the National Public Alerting System.
The B.C. Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness says public test messages from the emergency alerting system will be sent to all TV and radio stations, as well as compatible wireless devices, at 1:55 p.m. on Nov. 15.
The test will begin with the alert tone, and will be accompanied by the following message:
“This is a TEST of the BC Emergency Alert system. This is ONLY a TEST. In an emergency, this message would tell you what to do to stay safe. This information could save your life. Click for more info: www.emergencyinfobc.ca/test. This is ONLY a TEST. No action is required.”

The province explains cellphones need to be connected to an LTE network to be able to receive alerts. They also must be turned on, not set to do-not-disturb or airplane mode, be within an alert area, have up-to-date cell software, and be alert-compatible to receive alerts.
