Port Moody police arrest man for alleged poppy box theft

Port Moody police say they’ve arrested an alleged thief after a poppy donation box was taken from a local business on Monday.

Staff at a Newport Village retailer called police the evening of Nov. 6, saying they had seen a man cut and steal a poppy donation box from the business.

Officers say they were initially unable to find the suspect, who was later identified as someone “well known” to police.

The man in his 50s was arrested Thursday afternoon in Port Coquitlam.

“This behaviour is disgraceful…these incidents certainly resonate with our community as a whole and we treat them seriously,” said Const. Sam Zacharias.

Police say they are looking to recommend charges relating to the poppy theft.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact 604-461-3456.
