Metro Van gas prices rise as national average dips

Gas prices around parts of the Lower Mainland jumped a bit over the long weekend, with some stations posting a litre of regular for as much as $1.80.

According to GasBuddy, the average price for a litre of regular on Sunday was $1.76 around the Vancouver area. That compares to the national average, which has seen a dip in the last week or so, and hovers around $1.50/litre.

“Average gas prices in Canada have fallen to their lowest level since March, due to seasonal weakness in demand and falling oil prices,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

“Ahead of the holidays, I expect the decline to continue, so long as there are no unexpected developments that significantly alter global supply or demand, with some of the lowest prices in nearly a year likely ahead of us.”

While the Vancouver area has seen a bit of an increase in the last week, GasBuddy notes the prices around Vancouver Sunday were still about 18 cents lower than they were the same day last year. They’re also 0.7 c/L lower than a month prior.
