Mounties investigating apparent attempted robbery that led to Richmond crash

Mounties in Richmond say an alleged attempted robbery in traffic led to a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday evening.

According to the Richmond RCMP, three men in a Hyundai SUV allegedly “attempted to rob” four people in an Audi SUV near Westminster Highway and Garden City Road. The people in the Audi drove away when two of the men from the Hyundai made their way toward the vehicle while wearing black masks.

Police tell CityNews they responded to a collision between the two vehicles just before 4 p.m. near the intersection of Alderbridge Way and Elmbridge Way.

Mounties say no one was injured in the collision and all three men, who were already known to police, were arrested.

“A large sum of Canadian currency was recovered by police,” police added.

The Richmond RCMP explains that the Audi had a group made up of a 43-year-old man, a 69-year-old woman, and two children — aged 10 and 12.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and ask anyone who may have any information or dash cam footage related to the alleged attempted robbery or the crash to call the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2023-36093.

Police say they are aware of dash cam footage from the incident, but “the timestamp may be inaccurate.”
