Pedestrian dies after Burnaby collision: police

Mounties in Burnaby say a pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle on Thursday morning.

The Burnaby RCMP says it responded to reports that a woman had been hit by a vehicle on Hastings Street at 11 a.m.

Police say they have “identified the vehicle” and are speaking with witnesses to learn more about what led to the collision.

“We are still working to determine the circumstances of this incident, which has tragically claimed a life,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj said.

Mounties say Hastings has been shut down in both directions between Madison Avenue and Rosser Avenue since morning and will remain shut down until sometime in the evening.

They ask drivers to plan alternate routes for their commute.

Police say they have no further information on the matter and the investigation remains ongoing.
