Mounties in Maple Ridge say a “potential explosion” at a home overnight injured one person and caused the closure of a stretch of 228 Street early Wednesday morning.
Police closed 228 Street north of Dewdney Trunk Road to 122 Avenue just after 2 a.m., with no word on an estimated time of reopening.

In an update Wednesday afternoon, Mounties say it received multiple reports of a “loud bang” at home.
“Operating with extreme caution, General Duty officers set up a large perimeter to secure the scene. All occupants of the residence were safely evacuated,” Corp. Julie Klaussner said in a statement.
The RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit is now working to determine the cause of the “potential explosion,” police say, with the Serious Crimes Unit investigating.
One person was injured in the incident, Klaussen adds, but they were not taken to hospital.
“Several” people were detained, however, police have not confirmed if any charges have been laid.
Police are urging anyone who may have information about the incident to contact the Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.
