Shots fired at Surrey jewelry store Thursday: RCMP

A jewelry store in Surrey was shot at early Thursday morning, the RCMP says.

Mounties say the Newton business along 128 Street near 82 Avenue was closed at the time of the incident, just after 2 a.m.

Surrey RCMP’s Corp. Sarbjit Sangha told CityNews that one employee of the store received minor injuries from confronting the suspect and was taken to the hospital. They are now recovering from the injuries.

Investigations are still underway to determine the weapon used and the suspect.

The confirmed shooting comes as a robbery happened in the same area on Wednesday morning.

RCMP say that at this point in the investigation, there is no evidence the two incidents are linked as the incidents occurred at different times.

Sangha says that two suspects left the incident on Wednesday in a “dark colored pick-up truck” and the RCMP is looking into this.

“We are aware that two recent incidents within the same complex raises concerns in our community,” said Surrey RCMP’s Corp. Vanessa Munn in a statement. “Our South Community Response Unit has been engaged, will be increasing patrols in the area as well as meeting with local businesses to discuss their concerns.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
