One of the drivers fled the scene after a collision in Surrey Saturday evening left one person dead and another injured, Mounties say.
Police responded to the incident at the intersection of 128th Street and 82nd Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. They say a white Ford Mustang had been travelling south on 128th when a black Toyota Corolla, heading in the opposite direction, turned left into the path of the Mustang.
Both vehicles suffered significant damage, police say.
The passenger of the Corolla was taken to hospital in critical condition and later passed away from his injuries. The driver of the Mustang was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Corolla, who is described as a man in his 20s wearing a grey hoodie and jeans, fled the scene on foot.
Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors.
The investigation is in its early stages.
As of Sunday morning, police say they aren’t aware of the driver being located yet. The file has been taken over by the Surrey Criminal Collision Investigation Team.
