IIO called in after tractor, RCMP cruiser crash in Surrey

By CityNews Staff

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is looking into a crash that involved a tractor and an RCMP cruiser in Surrey on Saturday.

The IIO confirms to CityNews it “is undertaking a preliminary investigation related to an incident in Surrey on November 25.”

No further details are available at this time.

The crash happened on Highway 1 just after noon on Saturday when officers were trying to stop the tractor, which is believed to have been involved in an anti-SOGI protest that was making its way from Chilliwack to the PNE in Vancouver.

“The incident ended when the tractor rolled over as it tried to take the on ramp to Highway 1 west bound,” the RCMP said.

Videos posted to social media show the moments the tractor flipped, hitting a police cruiser that was right behind.

Police at the time said one person had been taken into custody and to the hospital, due to injuries obtained during the incident.

Police say British Columbia Highway Patrol is investigating the driver’s actions and Surrey RCMP are investigating the collision between the two vehicles.
