Plane crash near BC-Alberta border leaves 1 person dead: RCMP

The Columbia Valley RCMP says one person has died after a small plane crashed on Friday north of Brisco, just across the B.C.-Alberta border from Banff.

Around 4 p.m., RCMP says it received a report of a plane crash, after a hunter saw the plane having engine troubles before going down in a wooded area.

On Saturday morning, police say the crash site was located and they were able to confirm the pilot, who was the only occupant, had died upon impact.

“Our condolences go out to the family of the pilot who is a local area resident,” said Sgt. Ed deJong.

Police add that Transport Canada will be the lead investigating agency on this case going forward.
