Vancouver increases security screening measures at city hall

People entering Vancouver city hall may soon notice additional security screening measures.

The city says it will be implementing metal detectors at the lobby access area and on the third floor for anyone attending council meetings and other public events.

According to staff, the city will ensure the building “remains open and accessible, while continuing to be a safe space for the public and media.”

However, it notes the metal detection screening measure is “in response to the evolving security environment.”

The change also “aligns with similar security measures being implemented by other Canadian municipalities,” the city explains.
