$500,000 worth of stolen equipment recovered by Burnaby RCMP

Mounties in Burnaby say they have recovered about a half-a-million dollars worth of equipment after a business in North Burnaby was broken into twice in 24 hours.

Officers say the first break-in happened just after 6 a.m. on Nov. 13, when they received reports of the incident at a business near Still Creek Avenue and Douglas Road. Police say the suspects made off with about $500,000 in specialized surveying equipment.

Then at 3 a.m. the following morning, on Nov.14, Burnaby RCMP officers responded to the second break and enter in progress at the same business. Police believe nearly $30,000 worth of specialized equipment was stolen during that break-in.

Mounties say the Burnaby detachment’s Strike Force Unit — which specializes in robberies — took over the investigation. On Nov. 15, the RCMP executed search warrants across three homes in Mission, where the stolen equipment was recovered.

Police say three vehicles were also seized and a man and a woman were arrested in relation to the break and enters. Police say the two suspects have since been released.

The Burnaby RCMP says the investigation is still ongoing.
