Coquitlam RCMP officer charged with assault, BC Prosecution Service says

The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) confirmed on Friday that a Coquitlam RCMP officer has been charged with assault after an incident at a detachment last year.

Sgt. Antonio Guerrero Jr. was involved in an incident that BCPS says took place at the Coquitlam detachment between Dec. 14 and 15, 2022.

The BCPS says Guerrero Jr. has been charged with one count of assault contrary to section 266 of the criminal code.

“The charges were approved by a Crown Counsel with no prior or current connection with the officer,” the BCPS said.

BCPS added the case is now before the court so it will not be releasing any additional information.

Guerrero Jr is expected in court on Jan. 17.
