A small earthquake was felt on northern and central Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and parts of greater Vancouver on Sunday afternoon.
Earthquakes Canada said the quake, which happened just after 3:00 p.m. in the Coast Mountains, had a magnitude of approximately 4.9.
Replies to the federal agency’s post on X about the quake include reports of it being felt in Richmond, Vancouver’s West End, North Vancouver, Langley and Coquitlam.
Craig, a resident of New Westminster, told CityNews he felt the quake in his twelfth floor apartment.
“It was real gentle, it wasn’t a major one, but everything was kind of going sideways,” he said. “The TV was even starting to move a little bit. I have these weighted blinds and they were kind of moving a little bit too.”
There have been no reports of damage in Metro Vancouver or on Vancouver Island.
Incidentally, this quake struck the day after Earthquakes Canada announced it will be shutting down its X account — where it posts reports of earthquakes — in January for an unknown reason.
