Gas prices some of the lowest they’ve been in months

It’s the gift before Christmas: gas prices around Metro Vancouver have dropped even further, as the national average also continues to fall.

GasBuddy says the average price for a litre of regular around the Vancouver area was hovering around 166.03 on Sunday, with prices having fallen just over four cents in the course of the week.

Nationally, the average fell about 1.4 cents in the last week to 140.87 cents per litre.

According to Patrick De Haan, who is the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, the average price for a litre of regular is dipping as “demand … continues to appear weak.”

“While the declines may soon come to an end as the price of oil has rebounded from recent lows, we should see average prices staying pretty close to where they’ve been as of late,” he explained Monday.

“In addition, the price of diesel has just fallen to its lowest level in months, very welcome news for the economy as nearly all goods are impacted by the price of diesel. All in all, the news continues to be good in terms of fuel prices as we enter into the closing innings of 2023.”

While Vancouver prices continue to hover in the 160s, other areas nearby are seeing regular gas go for much lower.

In Abbotsford, GasBuddy says a litre of regular is being posted as low as 148.54 c/L, down close to six cents from a week prior.
