Vancouver police warn of ‘potentially violent person’

Vancouver police have issued a public warning about a “potentially violent person” they say “poses a significant public safety risk.”

The VPD says 29-year-old Kayla Kelly is living in the community while she awaits her trial on charges of assault, assaulting a police officer, and assaulting a police officer with a weapon.

According to investigators, Kelly has also been arrested for aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in connection with a stranger assault investigation.

“Kelly’s behavior has been escalating and she’s the suspect in multiple recent violent incidents,” said Const. Jason Doucette.

“Despite the efforts of the VPD and our partner agencies, she remains in the community and her unpredictable behavior puts the public at risk.”

While awaiting trial, Kelly is bound by court-imposed conditions. They include not being in the 100 block of East Pender, including the lanes; not being in possession of weapons, including knives or sharp blades not for the purposes of eating; and not possessing syringes or needles outside of her home or a designated supervised injection site, unless the needle is capped and in original sealed packaging.

Kelly is described as being 5’5″ tall and weighs 148 pounds with a slim build. She has long, blonde hair and blue eyes.

Anyone who sees her in violation of any of her conditions is asked to call 911.
