One pedestrian dead, another in critical condition after separate collisions: AbbyPD

Abbotsford Police say two separate collisions have left one pedestrian dead and another in critical condition Friday night.

Officers say they responded to the first collision just after 5 p.m. near the intersection of Old Yale Road and Victoria Street. Police say a 77-year-old female pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital in critical condition.

Only six minutes later, officers responded to a second collision in the 30000 block of Marshall Road Extension. Police say a 40-year-old male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Const. Art Stele says the incidents are unrelated and the drivers involved in both collisions are cooperating with police.

Impairment has been ruled out as a factor, Stele adds.

Police say the Marshall Road Extension remains closed in both directions due to their investigation, and Old Yale Road also remains closed until further notice.

The Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service was deployed to both collisions.
