Crews called out to fire underneath Knight Street Bridge Sunday morning

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services responded to a tent fire underneath the Knight Street Bridge at the North end Sunday morning.

Smoke could be seen rising from beneath the bridge around 10 :00 a.m.

Assistant Fire Chief Jarret Gray says the fire broke out in a homeless encampment that spread to nearby bushes.

“It was a tent that caught on fire, that caught on the surrounding area of bushes,” he told CityNews. “It is out at this time. It was a quick knock-down when crews arrived on scene.”

Gray says nobody was injured, and investigators are now looking into the cause of the fire.
