BC Ferries’ regular sailing schedule was back to normal Tuesday morning, a day after it was forced to make several cancellations due to a windstorm.
Because of the cancellations, sailings on Tuesday are expected to be busier than anticipated, as many passengers who had planned to travel Monday night are now travelling Tuesday. This is on top of those passengers who had already planned to sail Tuesday.
The service had cancelled all Monday evening sailings for Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, and all evening sailings from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay. Several sailings on smaller routes had also been cancelled.
BC Ferries said the cancellations Christmas Day were due to adverse conditions in the Georgia Strait. A wind warning remains in place as of Tuesday morning for northern Vancouver Island and coastal sections of the Central Coast, but an earlier rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver was cancelled.
This comes after BC Ferries announced all sailings to and from Prince Rupert were cancelled until Dec. 28 due to strong winds and a mechanical issue.
