Vancouver cuts green bin winter operations to biweekly pickups

The City of Vancouver says green bins will only be collected once every two weeks in January and February.
The city says the change takes effect the week of Jan. 8.
A post on X from the city explains that winter green bin volumes are much lower than in the summer, and cooler temperatures minimize odours coming from the bins.
Temporary green bin change: Starting the week of January 8, City crews will collect green bins every two weeks (not every week) on the same day that garbage is collected. Weekly green bin collection will resume the week of March 4.

The city says moving to this schedule will help give locals “more predictable service” as well, especially in situations where snow and ice could affect pickup operations.
The change is just temporary however, as the bins will be collected every week again in March.
