Police seek witnesses after Christmas Day assault at New Westminster SkyTrain

New Westminster Police are looking for witnesses after a person was assaulted and seriously injured at a SkyTrain station on Christmas Day.

The New West PD says officers responded to reports of the assault in the mall area of New Westminster SkyTrain Station around 5 p.m. Dec. 25.

Police say the victim is expected to recover, and the incident is now being investigated by the police department’s Major Crime Unit.

“We’re in the early stages of this investigation,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Our detectives, alongside our Forensic Identification Unit, are working hard to determine what happened. We understand there were numerous commuters in the area that may have witnessed this assault, or that may have relevant information.”

The relationship between the victim and the suspect is being investigated, but police say the incident is isolated and they don’t believe there is any risk to the general public.

Police ask anyone with any information about the assault to call the Major Crime Unit at 604-529-2430.
