Vancouver special municipal constable charged with assault

A special municipal constable (SMC) has been charged with assault after an incident at a Vancouver jail last January.

The BC Prosecution Service says the charges against SMC Omar Ahmad Flores stem from an incident alleged to have happened Jan. 7, 2023 at the VPD jail.

No other details about the incident were provided by the BC Prosecution Service, which says “the charges were approved by an experienced Crown Counsel who has no connection with the accused.”

Special municipal constables work in roles such as jail guards, traffic authority, and community safety.

Flores is set to be in Vancouver Provincial Court on Jan. 24, 2024.
