Man sentenced in 2022 random stabbings in Vancouver

A man involved in two random and unprovoked stabbings in Vancouver in 2022 has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Dennis Prasad pleaded guilty last October to the stabbings, which took place over a two-day span in September 2022, including one case of a food-delivery cyclist who survived after his throat was slashed.

In this case, police previously said the victim, despite suffering serious injuries, was able to call 9-1-1 for help. Several witnesses also helped out and provided first aid until officers arrived.

The court heard that the other victim, a 55-year-old volunteer at the Aboriginal Friendship Centre, lost a kidney because of the attack.

Prasad will spend about three more years in prison after sentencing when time spent awaiting trial is taken into account.
