Chinatown fire quickly extinguished: VFRS

Vancouver fire crews made quick work of a blaze in Chinatown Sunday morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Keith Stewart says firefighters responded to a fire near the intersection of Main Street and East Georgia Street just after 5 a.m.

“Upon arrival, our crews realized there was heavy smoke and flames in the rear of the 500 block and immediately were able to put some water on the fire,” he said.

The fire was contained to the rear of a two-storey brick building with residential space on the top floor and stores on the bottom floor.

Stewart says there were no occupants in the residential space where the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
