A special weather statement has been issued for Metro Vancouver shorelines, warning of potential “elevated ocean water levels accompanied by significant waves.”
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says the advisory is in place for Thursday morning, around high tide.
The areas affected include shorelines around the Straight of Georgia, including Stanley Park, UBC, and Kitsilano, as well as Richmond and Delta.
It says water levels will “likely [exceed] highest astronomical tide.”
“Large waves due to strong northwest winds, storm surge and seasonably high tides have the potential to produce high water levels on Thursday morning. Coastal flooding is possible along exposed shorelines, especially in low-lying areas,” the ECCC advisory reads.
On Tuesday, the Vancouver Park Board warned of closures along the Stanley Park Seawall amid safety risks due to the weather.
