Pipe at YVR floods domestic gate

You don’t normally expect to see pools of water at the airport, but a gate in the domestic terminal at YVR saw some minor flooding Friday after a pipe “malfunctioned.”

Vancouver International Airport confirms to CityNews that a pipe leaking near one of its gates sent water flooding into a section of the domestic terminal.

“Our operations and maintenance teams have secured the area and are working to repair the leak. Work is also underway to remediate. Operations are not affected,” the Vancouver Airport Authority said in an email just after 2 p.m.

Video of the situation posted online shows water cascading down walls inside the airport, with water pooling in a hallway and out through a gate in the C terminal.

It’s unclear what exactly prompted the “malfunction,” but this comes as the region is experiencing frigid temperatures brought by an arctic airflow.
