“First in crews upgraded it to a second alarm, which brought a total of 24 firefighters and eight apparatus to the scene. There were initial reports from neighboring occupants on scene of a person inside the building” said Assistant Chief Operations, Surrey Fire Services, Geoff McIntyre.

Firefighters hit the fire aggressively to tamper the flames, explained McIntyre.

“Our crews conducted an aggressive offensive fire attack and mitigated the fire extension to the rest of the building. The occupant of the townhouse involved got out safely. One occupant was transported to a hospital.”

Residents of three adjacent units were displaced due to the fire and water damage.

There were no other injuries.

“We did set up an aerial apparatus to fight the fire and to mitigate extension into the rest of the building. But our crews did a fantastic job of mitigating extension into the rest of the townhouse complex as well,” said McIntyre.
