An animal protection agency says a cat is now safe, after a Good Samaritan found him tied to a post in Richmond.
Bellamy, believe to be a one-year-old cat, is recovering at the Regional Animal Protection Society after being rescued from a vulnerable situation that left him helpless in the face of predators.
After being checked out by veterinarians, the shelter says Bellamy is in good shape and only has a low-grade heart murmur, which doesn’t pose a serious risk to his health.
“We have no idea how long he was in that dangerous situation, but he is safe now,” the society wrote on its website.
“He’s a nervous guy, but will almost certainly warm up as he realizes that most humans are trustworthy beasts.”
While the shelter is now working to find Bellamy his forever home, it says not all community shelters have the capacity to deal with complicated cases like Bellamy’s.
In situations like this, the shelter says it relies upon its Emergency Cases Fund to cover expenses for animals in need.
