Charges laid after stolen taxi hits pedestrian: Vancouver police

Vancouver police say a man has been charged after a taxi was allegedly stolen and then involved in “multiple hit-and-runs” Tuesday that sent two people to the hospital.

According to an update from the Vancouver Police Department, officers received calls about a cab being stolen in the area of Main Street and Terminal Avenue just before 7 a.m.

The taxi was reportedly “left briefly unattended and running” when it was taken.

Police say the suspect made his way to Kingsway and East Broadway, where a Tesla was hit. The driver then headed to Fraser Street and East 37th Avenue, where he allegedly hit a pedestrian.

The cab was eventually boxed in by police cruisers in the area off Main Street and Southeast Marine Drive, and a 44-year-old man was arrested.

The VPD says the 22-year-old pedestrian and a police officer were taken to the hospital with what are described as minor injuries.

Charles Disher is now facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Police say he remains in custody until his next court date.
