By CityNews Staff

The RCMP says a child has died after they were hit by a vehicle on a rural property in the B.C. Interior Monday.

According to Mounties, first responders were called to the area off of Highway 97 near Falkland — which is northwest of Vernon — just after 4 p.m. for reports of a two-year-old being hit.

The toddler was taken to the hospital but succumbed to their injuries.

“No words can describe how absolutely devastating this is for the family and our hearts go out to them and everyone affected by this tragedy,” Vernon North Okanagan RCMP MRO Const. Chris Terleski said.

Details are scarce but the RCMP says criminality is not suspected.

The coroner is also investigating the incident.
