Surrey robbery, assault suspect arrested

Mounties have arrested a man in connection with a bear spray incident at a South Surrey grocery store last week.

The RCMP says officers were called to the business in the area of 152 Street and 16 Avenue just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25.

According to police, the suspect tried to walk out of the store without paying for groceries when staff confronted them.

The suspect is alleged to have then deployed bear spray before leaving the area.

The RCMP says on Thursday, Feb. 1, a 31-year-old was taken into custody for robbery and assault with a weapon. He has since been released with conditions.

He’s due in court at a later date.
