Surrey RCMP seek public’s assistance in sexual assault case

Police in Surrey are asking for the public’s help identifying a man believed to have sexually assaulted a woman.

On Feb. 3, police say a woman was walking in the area of 78A Avenue and 156 Street when a man attempted to grab her, pull her into an alley and sexually assault her.

Following the attempt, which occurred just after 10 p.m., police say the woman was able to run to safety and flag down a passing vehicle for help.

Police describe the suspect as between 30 to 45 years of age, 5’10”, with a full beard and dressed in a dark-coloured shirt, blue headwear and shorts.

“We believe there may be witnesses who were in the area at the time and may recall seeing a suspect matching this description,” said Sgt. Tammy Lobb with the Surrey RCMP. “The suspect was wearing shorts at the time and his clothing would have stood out at this time of year.”

The RCMP says it’s also seeking the male occupants of a white, four-door, Mazda-like car with a sunroof who assisted the woman following the incident.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and the woman is being offered support through Victim Services.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
