If you’re hoping to take a ferry Friday evening or at any point over the Family Day long weekend, expect a long wait.
Deb Marshall with BC Ferries has some advice for anyone who doesn’t have a reservation but is hoping to get to Vancouver Island.
“If customers are travelling without a reservation, we would suggest that they do arrive early,” she said. “They might want to consider travelling as a foot passenger or carpooling.”
BC Ferries says it anticipates having more than 350,000 passengers and 150,000 vehicles between Thursday and Tuesday.
“I would suggest customers do check our current conditions on our website know before you go,” Marshall said. “It’s always a great way to prepare yourself and see what the conditions are.”
The service says it has added 26 additional sailings on the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay route — its most popular route — over the weekend.
BC Ferries says the worst of the traffic should be over by Saturday morning, but service will remain busy.
