The Surrey RCMP says one person was hurt after a shooting in the city’s Guildford area Sunday.
Mounties were called to the area of 152 Street and 101 Avenue just after 6 p.m. for reports that shots had been fired at a jewelry store. When they arrived, they found the victim, who was taken to the hospital with what are now being described as non-life-threatening injuries.
In an update Monday, the RCMP says officers “determined an attempt robbery had taken place,” and that a man had been shot by the suspects, who left before police arrived.
Corp. James Mason says the person who was shot is believed to be an employee of the jewelry store. He was not known to police, to Mason’s knowledge.
No arrests have been announced. Investigators said Sunday night initial indications were that this was “an isolated incident.”
Police are canvassing the area and collecting video, as well as witness testimonies.
The Surrey RCMP is asking anyone with video from the area of 152 Street and 101 Avenue between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday to contact investigators at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2024-23721.
