Stray cat in Burnaby rescued after being hit by a car

A stray cat has used up one of its lives after the BC SPCA says it was likely hit by a car in Burnaby this week.

The organization says the cat, now named Nemo, was found by a good Samaritan. Once the cat was brought to the vet, it was determined it had a collapsed lung, severe nerve damage to its front right leg, and a fractured tooth, which has since been removed.

The veterinarian says Nemo’s leg was extremely severe and the trauma from the road incident may have led to the nerve damage.

Nicole Mcbain, centre manager of the BC SPCA, says Nemo had to go through an amputation of the leg after a series of x-rays.

“He had to stay in emergency vet care for over 48 hours,” she said.

Despite his injuries, the non-profit welfare organization says Nemo is a “sweet” and “affectionate” animal that loves to cuddle and receive kisses on his head.

He also hates to eat alone.

“Once he has company, the food disappears quickly,” Mcbain said.

She says Nemo is now in the care of a foster family, and will be available for adoption sometime in March.
