Burnaby RCMP appeals to the public for footage of an alleged assault

RCMP is appealing to the public after a pedestrian was allegedly assaulted by a passenger of a vehicle in Burnaby.

The incident happened at Hastings Street and Rosser Avenue in North Burnaby just after 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, the Burnaby RCMP says.

“The pedestrian was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when he was nearly hit by a white SUV, according to witnesses,” an RCMP release said.

A male suspect, believed to be 17 to 20-years-old, got out of his car and punched the victim multiple times, leaving him with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect was not known to the victim.

“The vehicle, which is described as a white, newer model Honda CRV then reportedly fled the area, heading northbound on Rosser Ave. It’s believed the vehicle was being driven by a woman between 45 and 50-years-old with blonde hair who was wearing a black puffy jacket,” RCMP said.

Mounties are now asking for anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area or anyone who witnessed the incident to reach out to police.

“Burnaby RCMP investigators have spoken with witnesses and obtained surveillance footage of the suspect vehicle, however, they are still looking to obtain a license plate. We would like people to look at the image of the vehicle we are sharing and to contact police if they have any information or dashcam video that may assist in this investigation,” said Corp. Mike Kalanj with the Burnaby RCMP.
