BC Ferries cancels sailings due to severe weather

If you plan to travel between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island be sure to check your sailings.
BC Ferries has cancelled several sailings on major routes Saturday because of the high winds forecasted in the Strait of Georgia.
The following cancellations have been announced for the Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay route:
- the 8:45 p.m. sailing from Departure Bay
- the 10:10 p.m. sailing from Horseshoe Bay
The final scheduled sailings on this route will be the 5:55 p.m. from Departure Bay and the 6:35 p.m. from Horseshoe Bay.
Between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen, the following sailings have been cancelled:
- the 7 p.m. sailing from Tsawwassen
- the 9 p.m. sailing from Swartz Bay
The final scheduled sailings on this route will be the 7 p.m. from Swartz Bay and the 9 p.m. from Tsawwassen.
Earlier cancelled sailings includes the 8:00 a.m. and noon sailings from Tsawwassen, and 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. sailings from Swartz Bay.
BC Ferries says passengers on cancelled sailings will hear from customer service.
“Our Customer Service Centre to let you know if we can fit you on an alternate sailing, or if your booking must be cancelled. In the case of a cancellation, we will refund your fees and/or fares,” it said.
BC Ferries continues to monitor the weather conditions.
“If conditions do not improve, additional sailings may need to be cancelled and we will let you know if that happens,” it said.
Some sailings between Nanaimo Harbour and Descanso Bay (Gabriola Island) have also been adjusted due to crew shortages.
