It may technically still be winter but a sure sign that summer is around the corner is when the PNE announces its opening dates for the year.
Playland will open its Hastings Park gates to the public on May 18, with the season running until Aug. 16.
The PNE Fair, meanwhile, will run from Aug. 17 to Sep. 2.
The ever-popular Fright Nights will be on from Oct. 4 to 31, while the PNE’s Winter Fair will run on select dates in December, with more details to come.
Seasons passes are now on sale, with the PNE saying more detailed programming and specific ticket releases will follow.
This year brings some new attractions to the amusement park. While organizers have yet to say when exactly Playland’s newest ride will be ready, they note it will be sometime this summer.
The ThunderVolt rollercoaster was announced in November 2022. The ride, which has been described as “Canada’s fastest launch coaster,” will sit where the Corkscrew Coaster used to be.
The electric ride, which can carry 12 people at a time, is a three-car train that whips through an illuminated tunnel before a steep incline and a nearly 60-foot drop.
It’s being built by Italian company Zamperla, and was said to have cost $9 million.
The PNE is owned by the City of Vancouver and is a non-profit organization that welcomes more than three million visitors each year, organizers say.
