A GoFundMe campaign has been organized for a B.C. father of two who is fighting for his life in California after developing necrotizing fasciitis, also known as flesh-eating disease.
Ryan Busto, a helicopter maintenance engineer at HeliJet, was on a cycling trip in San Diego when he developed a saddle sore that turned into the life-threatening infection, the campaign’s page says.
He was placed into an induced coma and is receiving care from surgeons in the ICU.
“Ryan’s medical bills and the extended leave from work may far exceed what his insurance can cover,” the campaign page says.
“In these challenging times we reach out to collectively support the Busto Family on this journey and see Ryan’s return home to rejoin his wife and daughters.”
As of Friday evening, the “Fight for Ryan” GoFundMe had raised close to $80,000 of its $500,000 goal.
