A North Vancouver elementary school teacher has received a life-time ban after he was convicted of possessing child pornography last year.
The BC Commissioner for Teacher Regulation says police started investigating Graham Christopher Bowering in August 2020 after the RCMP was notified that he had child pornography in his possession.
The BCTR explains Mounties searched Bowering’s home in February as part of their investigation, leading them to “seize videos, images, and writing that police determined were consistent with child pornography.”
During this time, the regulator says Bowering didn’t inform the school that the search was taking place, adding he only did so the next month, “when spring break began.”
“He was subsequently arrested on March 15, 2021,” the BCTR explains, adding he began a leave of absence from the North Vancouver School District later that month.
Bowering pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography between 2014 and 2021 a year later, and was fired in February 2022.
In January 2023, the BCTR says Bowering received a 10-month conditional sentence, followed by two years of probation.
He was also bound by conditions to not be alone with anyone under the age of 16, and was included on the National Sex Offender Registry.
