1 person stabbed, others chased by suspect with knife in downtown Vancouver: police

One person has been arrested after a stabbing in downtown Vancouver Wednesday.

Vancouver police say officers were called to the area of Smithe and Beatty streets just before noon.

“The caller reported that one person was stabbed and a male was chasing people around with a knife,” Const. Tania Visintin told CityNews.

“Our VPD officers responded immediately and were able to arrest a 46-year-old suspect nearby.”

Police say the victim was taken to the hospital and treated for “non-life-threatening injuries.” They have since been released.

There’s no word at this point what prompted the incident, and whether it was targeted or random.

“It’s something our investigators are working to determine,” Visintin said.

Several police vehicles were seen blocking Cambie Street Wednesday afternoon, with multiple ambulances and at least a fire truck also on scene.

Crime scene tape was up around two scenes in the area.

CityNews heard from some witnesses who reported seeing someone get loaded onto a stretcher and taken away by ambulance.
