A Vancouver dessert shop is closing its storefront because of rising operating costs.
By March 31st, 7-inch Waffle House along West Broadway in Mount Pleasant will be closing its doors because renewing its lease agreement became too expensive. Instead, the dessert shop will be offering their food at events and festivals.
The shop — operating since May of 2022 — tells CityNews in an email that it enjoyed the few years it was open.
“We enjoyed making our little community called Vancouver extra fun and to be recognized as a tourist spot for iconic photos with the flower wall “every inch counts” and for the majestic Barbie pink decor for bachelorette parties and more,” it said.
“It was an amazing accomplishment to see the reception that our store got with everyone visiting us worldwide from places all over North America and Europe.”
The store initially started as a pop-up in Richmond offering waffles in the shapes of private parts — calling itself “naughty waffles” but due to increased interest moved to brick and mortar.
With celebrity and influencer attention from the likes of Perez Hilton and Blin-182, 7-inch Waffle House was viral multiple times on social media with 20 million views from reels on Instagram, it said.
For its final days, the dessert shop is offering special treats for its customers.
“As a final goodbye we will be offering free drizzle for all orders and an unlimited amount of toppings for all customers for no extra charge on the last week,” it said.
