Two fire incidents in Chilliwack, one person sent to hospital

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries Saturday early morning after a blaze in Chilliwack.

Chilliwack Fire Department got reports of a potential structure fire in a detached home located along Wellington Avenue, just after midnight.

BC EHS and RCMP attended the fire along with 15 firefighters at the scene — smoke was coming from the home’s front door, but the fire was quickly put out, crews said.

The home had two occupants, both evaluated by paramedics, and one person was sent to hospital for minor injuries, fire crews said.

“After investigation, it was found that one person used a fire extinguisher, helping reduce the fire’s spread,” Krista Minar, Assistant Fire Chief of Prevention and Investigations said in a release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, fire crews said.

Trailer fire in Chilliwack

Firefighters responded to another incident around 3 a.m. Saturday in a house trailer on Lickman Road, with neighbouring trailers under threat.

About 18 firefighters responded — heavy smoke was visible on the route, fire crews said.

Crews said, the lone occupant of the trailer was found safely outside among the thick smoke and flames, as firefighters tried to contain and extinguish the fire quickly.

“Their swift action prevented potential further damage, allowing nearby residents to return safely to their units,” Minar said, in a release.

“We are proud to commend the hard work and dedication of our crews in swiftly bringing the situation under control.”

The fire’s cause is under investigation, with current assessments saying it was likely an electrical accident, crews said.
