Mission home shot at overnight before car found on fire

A Mission home was the site of gunshots early Friday morning, the Mission RCMP explains.

Mounties say around 1:15 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired near the Mission Sports Park.

When officers arrived, they found a house on Kenney Avenue near Oyama Street had been hit by bullets. Police say multiple vehicles in the property’s driveway had also been shot.

Around 4:45 a.m., police say a dark SUV was found engulfed in flames on Barr Street, just south of Richards Avenue.

Police say no injuries have been reported and they are currently looking into whether the vehicle fire is related to the earlier shooting.

“This type of gun violence is not often seen in Mission,” said Corp. Harrison Mohr. “We want to do everything possible to ensure that the person or persons responsible for this shooting are identified and held responsible for their actions.”

Police say there’s no evidence to suggest the greater public is at risk, “although the motive for the shooting is as of yet unknown.”

Mounties are asking anyone with information about the shooting or burning SUV to contact the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
