Vehicle plunges into Fraser River, Coquitlam RCMP says

A stolen vehicle plunged into the Fraser River at the Maquabeak Park boat launch in Coquitlam early Saturday morning, the RCMP has confirmed.

Officers were called to the area, which was located close to Burbidge Street, just after 12:15 a.m.

“Upon attendance, police located the vehicle fully submerged, with its vehicle lights on,” said Corp. Alexa Hodgins, media relations officer.

“Police, with the assistance of Coquitlam Fire and Rescue, were unable to reach the vehicle or determine if it was occupied.”

Hodgins says two RCMP officers entered the water in the search.

“They were subsequently transported to hospital as a precautionary measure,” she said.

Hodgins says the RCMP underwater recovery team is currently on the scene to locate the vehicle and determine if there were any occupants.

CityNews has reached out for clarification on the condition and location of the driver or any other passengers.

The file is still under investigation.

The Coquitlam RCMP is asking anyone with any information to call 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2024-8540.
