Police say an explosive material was left at a park on Vancouver Island on Saturday.
West Shore RCMP says it received a call from a “complainant” who located explosive material at their residence at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Mounties say the person placed the explosive material in their vehicle and drove to the West Shore detachment.
“As this was dangerous, police directed the complainant to stop their vehicle, exit, and wait for police to attend their location while they waited a safe distance away,” Cpl. Nancy Saggar said.
However, police say the person had already gotten out of their vehicle and left the explosive material in the Veterans Memorial Park.
RCMP says it immediately attended the scene, secured the area, and said there is no risk to public safety.
“Police are currently at this location, and we ask that no public attend the park,” Saggar said.
Mounties say the Explosive Disposal Unit has been called and will attend the park to handle and dispose of the explosive material safely.
