Metro Vancouver’s Massey Tunnel is now open for drivers

Good news for those commuting through the Massey Tunnel — it is now open for drivers.

Work on Metro Vancouver’s Massey Tunnel is now complete, the tunnel will no longer see overnight closures.

This comes as crews have wrapped up four weeks of work on the tube, where a manual counterflow system was put in temporarily during rush hour.

The tunnel was completely shut to traffic both ways from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. from April 4, for three nights.

Work was originally scheduled to continue Sunday, April 7 with another full closure starting at 11pm but crews announced today that the work is complete, and the closure is not needed.

The new system is replacing the old automatic counterflow system which helps traffic control during the morning and afternoon rush hour commutes.

Commuters who take the Massey Tunnel will see the new system is in place for the first time on Monday, April 8, in the morning.
