Driver of pick-up seriously hurt in head-on crash with school bus: Mission RCMP

A head-on crash between a pick-up truck and a school bus Wednesday has led to the closure of a major highway in the Mission area.

The Mission RCMP says the driver of the pick-up suffered what are being described as “serious injuries.”

According to BC Emergency Health Services, two people treated for injuries needed to be taken to the hospital. One was flown via air ambulance and the other was transported by ground.

“Seven ground ambulances, a paramedic supervisor and an air ambulance responded to the scene,” EHS said in an email to CityNews.

“Paramedics provided care and assessment to two additional patients at the scene who did not require hospital transport.”

No further details were provided.

The crash happened in the area of Highway 7 and Johnson Road near Deroche, northwest of Chilliwack and northeast of Mission, around 5 p.m.

It’s unclear what caused the crash.

The collision has resulted in the closure of Highway 7 in both directions for several hours.

DriveBC says motorists can take Waring Road and Nicomen Island Trunk Road as alternate routes.
