Brewers from North Vancouver, Whistler, Victoria earn medals in World Beer Cup

Breweries across B.C. have tapped into some awards for the “Olympics of Beer.”

Beermakers in North Vancouver, Whistler, and Victoria have earned medals in the 2024 World Beer Cup.

Shaketown Brewing in North Vancouver won bronze in the American-Style Pilsner category for its ‘Pre-Prohibition Pilsner’; Whistler Brewing won gold in the Chocolate Beer category for its beer ‘Whistler Winter Dunkel’; and Phillips Brewing and Malting Co. won gold in the best American-Style Sour Ale category for its ‘Dinosour Stone Fruit’ brew.

The World Beer Cup is an annual competition organized by an American trade group for independent craft brewers, called the Brewers Association.

Dubbed “The Olympics of Beer,” the competition has run since 1996, to “celebrate the art and science of brewing,” and “create greater consumer awareness about different beer styles and flavour profiles while promoting international brewing excellence.”

Judges selected entries in more than 100 categories. Only 17 Canadian-made beers earned medals in this year’s competition.
