The Vancouver Canucks didn’t get their way Tuesday night, falling to the Nashville Predators in Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Playoff series.
The Predators won at Rogers Arena with a final score of 2-1. The series now sits at 3-2 for Vancouver.
Vancouver poured on the pressure early Tuesday, creating a flurry of chances in the game’s opening minutes. After two scoreless periods, defenceman Nikita Zadorov got the Canucks on the board 3:11 into the third period.
However, the Predators followed up with a pair of goals from Roman Josi and Alexandre Carrier to take the win in regulation. Star winger Filip Forsberg assisted on both tallies.
“It’s disappointing, it was a hard-fought game,” J.T. Miller said post-game.
Miller says the team has a lot of work to do, adding, the Canucks’ powerplay wasn’t up to snuff.
“We’re not coming with speed — it’s as simple as that,” he explained. “It just sucks. We had a chance to close it at home with a lead. I’ve got to be better.”
Vancouver went 0-for-2 on the power play Tuesday while Nashville was 1-for-4.
The teams will now travel back to Nashville for the next game, set for Friday.
Should Nashville tie up the series, the teams will return to Vancouver for Game 7, currently scheduled for Sunday.
Goaltender Artur Silovs was once again in net for Vancouver Tuesday — his second career playoff game. This came after he helped the Canucks with their big comeback win against the Predators in Game 4.
Silovs stopped 20 of 22 shots for Vancouver and Juuse Saros made 19 saves for Nashville in Game 5.
Casey DeSmith was out with a minor injury he suffered during Game 2, while first-string goalie Thatcher Demko also remained out with an injury he sustained in Game 1 of the series.
